The MSMS Learning Commons is excited about its first author visit. Ms. Lidell will introduce new book and also talk to English language arts classes about the process of writing a fantasy novel. She is visiting MSMS on June 3rd and 6th.

“For fans of Tamora Pierce and George R. R. Martin comes a gritty, complex debut that’s not to be missed.

Having already survived six years at the Tildor’s top military academy, Sixteen-year-old Renee De Winter is determined to graduate, training day and night to compete with her male classmates. When the boys overpower her parries, she works harder.  When a bully sabotages her gear, she fights without it.  But when an underground crime group captures her mentor for its illegal gladiatorial games, she must choose between her career and her conscience.  Determined to penetrate the group’s inner circles, Renee will leap from academia to the crime filled streets, pick up a sword, and weigh law against loyalty.” (retrieved from http://alexlidell.com/)

The Learning Commons would like to thank all of the students who submitted poems into the Spring Poetry Contest. So many students wrote great poems that really capture the excitement and enjoyment that spring has to offer. Unfortunately, only three winners could be chosen. Check out their wonderful poems below.

I am from.

I am from mom and dad the best in the world
From sitting at home with my family to a great vacation
The unforgettable memories will always stay

I am from the freedom that makes me proud to an American
I am from my grandmother cooking to relaxing Italian music
I am from the perfect towns of dracut to Burlington

I am from the flashing screens and pushing buttons
That makes me happy to be in the 21st Century
Hours and hours a day

I am from the terrible tragedies that happen to my country
That mold me into the proud person I am today
No matter how many, they will always get better

I am from my baby sister to my older brother that prepare for the real world
Not only them my parents too along with my teachers as well
I start off small and grow and grow as more people help me learn

No matter how bad or good things get
The future will always hold new things for me
I am from new friends to new family

The
Sound of birds
Wafts through the air
On the fresh wind
After a rain and
Delicate buds
Poke up from the ground
Wet with iridecent dew drops.
Lush leaves are
rustled by the dripping
from the tree foliage above.
And then the
Gold brilliance of
Sun assists the gardener
In the
Spring.

The buzzing bees,
The leaves on trees,
Are waking up,
The golden sun,
The flowers in bloom,
I know spring is coming soon,
The grass is green,
The breeze is here,
I know that winter ain’t near,
I can finally believe,
That Spring has sprung,
I can only wait till summers begun.

Last week, Mrs. Chang’s BHS Intro to Architecture class visited the MSMS Learning Commons to check out the new space. They asked the Library Media Specialist, Mr. Dexter a wide array of questions about the space and how it’s used.

The students will be participating in the Discover Design Contest and will each design their own ideal library space. Those who have visited the new MSMS Learning Commons would all agree that the space is a good reference point toward designing a modern and innovative space.

On Mrs. Chang’s blog you will see project details and individual student blogs. The student blogs are very neat to look through, especially considering they were once patrons of the old MSMS library.
